Chihuahua Amputee Gets Adopted By The Vet Who Saved Him

It was love at first sight for an injured Chihuahua mix and the vet who saved his life. The pup named Jim suffered from a fractured pelvis, but despite having a leg amputated, he was happy and loving. Dr. Sue Lynch admired his bravery and positive attitude, so she knew she couldn’t let him go.

After fostering him during his recovery, she chose to make him a permanent family member. Now, not only did he survive this scary situation, but he ended up with a loving family. Lynch promises never to let Jim get hurt like that again. Having a vet for a mom might not be so intimidating after all!

Life-Saving Surgery

Jim arrived at the Humane Society of the Pike Peaks Region in Colorado after being reportedly hit by a car. Rescuers guess that he was left on the side of the highway after a life-threatening car accident. His pelvis was shattered, and vets had to amputate one of his legs to save his life. But along the way, he was such a trooper.

“From the minute I saw him, with a pelvic fracture and so sad, I just couldn’t believe how sweet he was despite all his injuries and pain,” Lynch said.

First, Jim went through surgery for his pelvis, but Lynch is the one who spotted extensive nerve damage in his right leg. Amputating his leg was the best way to relieve the pup’s pain.

Lynch fostered Jim while he recovered from his amputation. While it was meant to be a temporary arrangement, Lynch and her family fell head over heels for the little dog.

Three Legs Won’t Slow Jim Down!

Once Jim started to heal, he felt more like himself than ever before. He’s a spirited pup, and Lynch’s family quickly knew that they couldn’t live without him. After some careful consideration, Lynch decided to adopt him and give him the life he deserves.

“It was done after that. My daughter was in love. My husband was in love,” Lynch said. “I couldn’t bring him back knowing I wouldn’t know what his future was going to be.”

Lynch also said that Jim has the best temperament. He follows Lynch around all day and seems to feel right at home. Plus, having only three legs doesn’t seem to slow him down. He loves running around and playing with the family’s larger rescue dog, Elvita. Elvita is also a dog Lynch treated and fell in love with.

Now, Jim lives his life to the fullest as if nothing went wrong. He likes to live in the present because that’s where he’s loved and cared for. He’s so grateful that Lynch and her family opened their hearts to him.
